Deuce to Seven Triple Draw
Deuce to Seven Triple Draw Poker is a variation of draw poker. It isn't a common game and few people have heard of it. The most likely place to find Deuce to Seven Triple Draw being played is among the ultra high stakes players in Las Vegas who often spread several games at the same table, and 2-7 Triple Draw is one of the games.
Basic Concept
The goal is to make the lowest five card hand in three draws. Each player gets five cards and like draw poker they are faced down. In Triple Draw all cards and poker hands count. Aces count for high only and the best hand isn't A2345 but 75432 because straights count against you. There are three draws making it a total of four betting rounds. If it's fixed limits the betting structure is the same as Texas Hold'em with small bets the first two rounds and big bets the last two rounds.
How a hand is played
The hand begins when the blinds are posted. The blinds are posted by the two players to the immediate left of the dealer. The first player posts the small blind, which is the size of half a big blind and the second player posts the big blind. The dealer is represented by a white plate called the dealer button that is placed in front of one the players. The dealer button moves clockwise one step after every hand is played.
The first draw
When the blinds are posted five cards is dealt to each player. The dealer begins with the first player to his left and continues clockwise by dealing one card at a time until he gives himself the fifth and last card. Since the blinds are live bets it's the player to the left of the big blind who starts the betting. Betting goes on as usual with the players having the option to call, fold, check or raise. After the betting is done the first player discards 0-5 cards and gets new cards from the dealer so that the player has five cards, the same goes for the other players.
The second draw
After each player has made their first draw the second betting round begins. Players have the same options as usual and the last player to act is the button. The remaining players discard any amount between 0-5 cards and get new cards from the dealer.
The third draw
After the second draw players bet as usual. The bets are doubled on the last two betting rounds if it is fixed limit structure. Players make their third draw and a fourth betting round begins.
The showdown
Players make their moves and the player who were last to bet or raise is first to show his or hers cards. The other players may show their cards if they have a better hand or fold if they don't. It's optional for callers to show their cards. The lowest five card hand (poker hand) wins the pot. The dealer button is moved on step to the left, players post the blinds and a new hand may begin.
